Counsel of God

Psalm 119:5 Oh, that my ways were directed, To keep Your statutes!

Dearly beloved, we tend to think we know many things from Bible. We know things that are essential and we do keep many of them could be our thought.

Yet we falter in some areas which we think is common to everybody.

Here the Psalmist does not think it that way. He thinks it would be so good if his ways could be directed to keep His statutes.

Many times when we commit mistakes, or sins we may tend to think like this. Oh, that my ways be directed to keep His commandments.

Our God gives not only statues that we need to follow, may times as Spirit of God He moves in our hearts giving us good counsel.

He has given us commandments and He is always willing to give good counsel so that we will obey His commandments. Yet many times we tend to ignore His counsel. Are we not?

That is when there are problems in our lives. There is a clear difference between counsel and commandment. His words are commandments, His moving on our heart to give inputs would be the counsel that he gives so that we follow the written word. Hope I made the difference clear. The Holy spirit plays a significant role in we being counselled by Him.

Now coming back to where we started, He gives us good counsel yet we ignore that. Psalmist talks about that in Psalm 107 in more than one place.

11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,And despised the counsel of the Most High,

12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor; They fell down, and there was none to help.

Dearly beloved, God is there to direct our path. But we ignore / despise His counsel. There comes the issue. Yes, today let us think through if we are doing so. If so let us repent from that. When we ignore the counsel of the Holy Spirit we tend to grieve Him. Let us desist doing so. Let us put in all our best to please Him.

Yes, when we do so, the blessings will be on their way. Am I tempting? Be assured we need to run for getting the prize. Jesus Himself set us an example. Hebrews 12:2 Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us also hope for the joy set in front of us, and run the race listening and obeying the counsel (directions) of Holy Spirit .

God bless you.
