Impulsive Peter

We might immediately remember the rebuke received by Peter from our Lord and savior Jesus Christ while chiding Him for talking about crucifixion. Here is another incident I would like to bring forth which shows Peter in same light as that.

Jesus was with at most care explaining to the disciples that for all they did on this earth in support of Him, they would we rewarded in His kingdom. Luke 22:29,30. While saying so he wants to add a note of caution, especially to Peter. He called out Peter's name and said "Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."

The point is He was very particular to say Peter may have trouble ahead. But little of that he realized. Instead of paying attention to what he heard, Peter just started to talk his heart out. He said he will not leave Jesus in prison or death.

We all know where he ended up. He ended up denying Christ three times.

Yes dearly beloved, as written in James 1:19 ...my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath

Peter's folly was he was not swift to hear but was ready to speak. We do not see this issue of Peter after he received the Holy Spirit.

Two things: We need to be slow to speak but eager to listen. The implementation of this is taught to us by the spirit of God when we are anointed.
